The two Israeli companies signed a licensing and cooperation agreement for 7 years. Siphia’s software detects driver distractions. Starting in 2023, every new vehicle in the EU will be required to include a driver monitoring system

Mobilai Company (Mobileye) Adds a new dimension to its vehicle sensing chip: Driver Monitoring System. This morning, the Sifia Company announced to the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (Cipia) That it has signed a license agreement with Mobilai to implement its driver monitoring software in existing and future versions of Mobilai’s EyeQ chip. The combined product will be marketed and sold by Mobilai in the global car market. Following the announcement, Sifia’s share on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange jumped by about 11% and is currently traded at a market value of about NIS 286 million.

Siphia has developed a sensing and control system designed for the interior of the vehicle and is used primarily to monitor the driver’s level of alertness by analyzing parameters such as head tilt, general posture and eyelid movements. The system is based on machine vision and artificial intelligence, knows how to detect a driver’s distraction from the road by tracking the pupils, and alerts whenever his level of alertness drops. The algorithm also detects distractions such as using a smartphone while driving, smoking, wearing a seat belt, looking away and more.

The DMS market is getting a boost from the regulator

For Mobilai, the collaboration is intended to meet the growing regulatory requirement for the implementation of DMS solutions in new vehicles. The most significant regulatory development is in the EU, which requires that from 2023 all ADAS systems will also be required to provide driver monitoring capabilities, as a condition for obtaining the NCAP high safety rating. China and the United States are also adopting similar policies, which is expected to significantly push the entire DMS market, which has so far been considered a sub-world of car safety solutions. According to research firm Emergen Research, the DMS market, which in 2019 rolled in about $ 1 billion, is expected to grow to a volume of $ 2.39 billion in 2027.

The collaboration between the two companies lasted a long time. In the past, they have reported on collaboration in a number of tenders in which Sifia’s Driver Sense software has been integrated with Mobileye’s monitoring solution. This time it is a commercial agreement that regulates the cooperation between them for at least 7 years, for example. As part of this, the software will be sold to its customers together with its solution and will also be integrated in future versions of EyeQ.
