More than 6,000 marijuana offenses closed in the Bronx

by time news

The Bronx has closed more than 6,000 cases of minor marijuana possession and use, which was legalized in New York State two months ago.

“My office has stopped prosecuting these charges, as such misconduct does not pose a direct threat to public safety, but leaves criminal records in people’s lives that can affect their work, housing, education, immigration status and other areas of life,” Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark said in court.

New Yorkers can carry up to 3 grams of marijuana or 24 grams of the drug in concentrated form, including oil, under the new law, which came into force on March 31.

Smoking is permitted in the same public places where tobacco smoking is now permitted. And, accordingly, it is prohibited where it is forbidden to smoke tobacco, that is, in parks, on beaches, in playgrounds. Later this year, the authorities will develop rules for the sale of marijuana and bring them to the attention of the population.
