More than 80 people were killed in floods in Sudan. A spokesman for civil defense announced on Monday that there were a total of 84 fatalities from the floods, and another 67 people were injured. Some of the fatalities drowned. Other people were killed by electric shocks and house collapses.
According to the civil defense spokesman, the floods triggered by heavy rains in the north-east African country also destroyed more than 8,400 houses. Damage was caused to another 27,000 houses. The UN announced last week that 50 villages in southern Sudan had been flooded. 65,000 people were forced to flee as a result. A camp with refugees from the neighboring state of South Sudan was also flooded.
