Russia has announced that work is underway to develop new support and rescue ships dedicated to the Russian navy.

A statement issued by the press service of one of the factories said: “Work is continuing in Russia on the development of the new support and rescue shipKerch Strait” it will complete the process of supplying it with equipment, and its outer hull will be made will be painted, after which tests will be carried out”.
The statement said: “This ship was developed within the framework of the government project MPSV06. She is 86 meters long, 19 meters wide, and can sail at a speed of 15 knots.”
The Kerch Strait ship can be used for patrol missions and rescue missions for ships and boats in emergency situations, and for rescue and firefighting operations in offshore gas and oil fields. It can also provide assistance in ship evacuation missions , and is equipped with rooms and equipment to provide medical assistance to crews and people who may be exposed to accidents.
The ship was designed to have a hull that could also cut through ice up to 1.5 meters thick.
