When the heroes of the freedom struggle are mentioned, the present generation knows only the names of Mahatma Gandhi and Jawahar Lal Nehru. But this film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’ brings on screen the painful struggle story of many forgotten heroes who risked everything for the country before the era of Gandhi and Nehru.

Story of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’

The story of this film begins in the last decade of the 18th century, when the country was struggling with a plague epidemic. Under the slavery of the British government, the countrymen were dying the death of insects without proper resources. We have seen the dangerous times of Corona, but at that time the British used to burn the victims of plague alive. During the same time, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s (Randeep Hooda) father Damodar Savarkar became a victim of plague and left this world, giving the responsibility of his family to his elder son Ganesh Damodar Savarkar (Amit Sial) and his wife. Damodar had explained to his three sons that the British were very powerful so there was no point in fighting them. Despite this, Vinayak, who had anti-British views since childhood, along with his elder brother Ganesh laid the foundation of a secret organization Abhinav Bharat, which advocated armed struggle against the British. Savarkar not only lit a massive Holi of English clothes, but all the youth associated with his organization killed many British officers.

During that time, Savarkar received the blessings of Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, the main leader of the freedom movement. In order to learn the art of defeating the British through their own tactics, Savarkar went to London to study law. Here, Indian revolutionaries present in London used to gather in Shyamji Krishna Verma’s India House. With their help, Savarkar collected weapons for the members of his organization and learned how to make bombs. Madan Lal Dhingra, associated with his organization, created a sensation by openly shooting Curzon Wylie, the head of the British Secret Service in London. After this audacious incident, Savarkar was arrested and sent to India and he was sentenced to double life imprisonment and sent to Kala Pani i.e. Andaman Nicobar Islands, from which it is said that no one returns from there. To know the story beyond this, you will have to go to the cinema theatre.

Trailer of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’

Actor Randeep Hooda, known for immersing himself in his characters, has a lot to do with the film ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’. Apart from playing the lead role in this film, he has also handled the work of its direction and production. He has also written its story in collaboration with Utkarsh Naithani. As a director, Randeep has worked hard on the film. The almost three-hour long film connects you with its characters in the beginning. The interval of the film takes place at a very interesting point. Although the story definitely becomes a bit cumbersome after the interval, but soon it gets back on track.

Artist of ‘Swatantrya Veer Savarkar’

Earlier this film was to be released last year, but Randeep has re-shot many parts of the film and the effect of his hard work is visible in the film. Especially watching the Kaala Paani scene, Randeep’s avatar from the film Sarabjit comes to mind. If we talk about the acting of the actors, Randeep has worked hard in his character. The result of this is that you only see Savarkar on screen. Other artists including Amit Sial have also done good work. However, apart from Vinayak and Ganesh, the other actors in the film do not fit their roles well. The cinematography of the film is good and its sets are also beautifully designed. Of course, it was not easy to bring the 100 year old era on screen. The horrific scenes of black water give goosebumps to the audience. The background score of the film and the dress designing of the characters are also strong. However, the music of the film is not that strong. None of its songs is able to arouse patriotic fervor in the audience.

Why watch: If you are interested in the freedom struggle and want to be exposed to some new aspects related to it, then you can buy the ticket for this film.
