On Teacher’s Day, we talk about the dream of reuniting with the person who taught us how to read our first words

Paula Maciulevicius Brasil says she dreams of meeting the teacher of “prezinho”, from 1995.

If on Teacher’s Day – celebrated today (15) – we had the chance to meet someone special again, without a doubt, I would choose to hug teacher Joana. I remember in 1999, when she held the colorful book pointing to the syllables and celebrated each reading with me. In the class, I was one of the last to learn to read, but Joana, or Aunt Joana, never let any student feel sad about it.

Entering one of the classrooms at the extinct Sesi school – Maria José Castelo Zahran, in the José Abrão neighborhood, was always a joy. Every day the song “Sou uma florzinha de Jesus” was repeated in a lively choir, followed by hugs. Thus, the first years of learning were filled not only with discipline, but also with a lot of love and affection. From the 1st grade of Elementary School, only good and colorful memories remained.

Journalist Paula Maciulevicius Brasil carries the same desire in her chest: to meet her “prezinho” teacher again. Ilda taught Paula in 1995. “I would really like to see her again, know where she is, and tell her that after learning the first few words, I flew away, and became a journalist! It’s a shame that even in times of networks social media, I don’t remember her last name.

Oscar’s best memories from his school days were with his teacher Angela.

But recently there were people who were luckier. Oscar Campelo, 36, met his preschool teacher, journalist Ângela Kempfer. The still well-kept photographs reveal moments of great joy and affection for a teacher who held his hand. “As a child, I remember that I had some family issues, but when I arrived at school, Angela always treated me with great affection. She had a big impact on that moment in my life. She even said that I was similar to her”, recalls Oscar.

It was then that social media helped Oscar with this reunion, who is still waiting for a coffee with his teacher to talk about how the first years of learning marked his life.

In a survey carried out by B side this Saturday, we asked if any teacher had an impact on the lives of readers, and 88% answered yes. In more than 800 comments, Cristiane Araújo Freire highlighted her affection for teacher Lucia Serrat Bueno. “A true master, one of those who teaches and learns, who does not hold back on her wisdom and availability and who has a contagious joy for life. Furthermore, her embrace is not an action, it is a place!”, she described.
