After the World Cup, basketball professional Maxi Kleber will not be at the Olympic Games either. This was preceded by a dispute with a former teammate.

Basketball professional Maximilian Kleber will not take part in the Olympic Games after the World Cup. The 32-year-old from Würzburg explained this in an interview on “Ran” (Wednesday). “No, I won’t be there,” said Kleber when asked whether he still saw a chance. The Dallas Mavericks professional decided not to take part in the World Cup in Asia last summer after a verbal dispute with captain Dennis Schröder.

“Some things just aren’t meant to be. Everyone goes their own way. I’m concentrating on the NBA season for now,” said Kleber, whose Mavericks are fighting to take part in the play-offs in the North American professional league NBA. In the summer of 2023, the national team without glue and led by Schröder became world champions in Manila.

Short conversation with Schröder before the NBA game

About seeing Schröder again in the NBA, Kleber said: “When he was still with Toronto and we played at home against the Raptors in the fall, we chatted shortly before the game. I congratulated him on the World Cup title and the MVP award. We left it at that.”

After the triumph in Manila, national coach Gordon Herbert is expected to plan with the World Cup squad for the Olympic tournament in Lille and Paris (July 27 to August 11).
