In the Tomsk region, nine members of the expedition of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO) have disappeared, Interfax reported, citing a source in the headquarters for the search for missing people.

“The registered group of nine people has disappeared and is not getting in touch in the Tomsk region. All of them are representatives of the Russian Geographical Society, ”the agency’s interlocutor said.

Later, a representative of the Tomsk branch of the Russian Geographical Society told TASS that the search for the missing group had begun in the region. The Ministry of Emergency Situations told the agency that the group was last seen on September 11 in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

“On September 11, local residents of the Mayskoye settlement of the Yenisei District (Krasnoyarsk Territory) saw this group, on the same day they contacted relatives and a representative of the Russian Geographical Society in Tomsk,” the agency’s source said.

The group went on an expedition across the Krasnoyarsk Territory and the Tomsk Region along the so-called Tunguska trail in order to find out the reasons for the transfer of the Ket fort, from which the development of Siberia was going.

The Ket prison was an important strategic point and played an important role in the advancement of the Russian pioneers to the east. It was founded in 1596, at that time the Kets, a small indigenous people of Siberia, lived there. In the second half of the 17th century, the prison was moved to a new place, more convenient for life. At the end of the 19th century, the Ob-Yenisei Canal was built, connecting the river of the Keti Lomovataya basin through the Kas River with the Yenisei. The waterway did not acquire any practical significance and was closed in 1917. In 2019, the location of the last, “youngest” Ket prison was found – in the center of the Tomsk region.
