New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the account of crores of central funds given to Kerala in Parliament. The Minister stated in the Rajya Sabha that Kerala has paid 224 percent more tax share than during the UPA government. The minister came up with the tax allocation calculation when Kerala’s struggle against the central government’s neglect was going on in Delhi. Nirmala said that all these figures are transparent and the Kerala government can tell whether it has received this much money or not.

The explanation was compared to the amount given during the UPA regime. Nirmala Sitharaman explains that during the 2014-24 NDA government, Rs 1,50,140 crore was paid to Kerala as tax share. The minister also stated that the tax share paid during the UPA regime (2004-14) was Rs 46,303 crore.

In the last 10 years, the NDA government has given Rs 1,43,117 crore as grants. The Minister said that this was only 25,629 crore during the UPA government. This is an increase of 458 percent.

The minister said that the NDA government has sanctioned Rs 82 crore in 2020-2021, Rs 239 crore in 2021-2022, Rs 1,903 crore in 2022-2023 and Rs 18,087 crore as additional borrowing for capital expenditure.
