CHENNAI: With the onset of Northeast Monsoon in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the Chennai Meteorological Department has warned the public to be alert as heavy rains will fall in full swing from today in most of the districts.

At the national level, the South-West Monsoon season is considered as the main rainy season, but Tamil Nadu receives most of its rainfall from the North-East Monsoon.

In the annual rainfall requirement of Tamil Nadu, 33.6 cm of rain is received through South-West Monsoon and 45 cm through North-East Monsoon.

Small stormm

In this case, the northeast monsoon started on October 29. Coastal districts have been witnessing widespread rainfall for the past few days due to the low atmospheric circulation.

Generally, Tamil Nadu is likely to receive good rains due to the temperature changes in the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal due to the storm signs that form during October to December.

Meteorologists are investigating the possible factors for this.

In this case, Sentamarai Kannan, director of the Chennai Meteorological Center, issued a statement yesterday:

Atmospheric downward circulation prevails over the Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal areas of South Sri Lanka.

Due to this, ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued for the three districts of Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Ranipet for heavy rain today.

‘Yellow Alert’ has been issued for 13 districts namely Chennai, Chengalpattu, Vellore, Tirupattur, Thiruvannamalai, Villupuram, Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai and Pudukottai.

Due to this, heavy rain is likely to occur in many places of these districts.

Puducherry, Karaikal and a few places are likely to experience heavy rain. This rain will continue for the next three days. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at most places in other districts.

For the next two days in Chennai, the sky will be generally cloudy. Moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur in a few places today and heavy rain tomorrow.

He said this.

Thus, it is necessary for government departments to take precautionary measures by keeping in mind the Meteorological Center warning and Disaster Management Authority warning in the coming days; It is better for the public to plan their activities accordingly.
