The announced increase in electricity prices by Kelag caused some incomprehension among local politicians. While the government is setting up a hardship fund, the Liberals want to make the electricity price an issue in a special session of the state parliament.

“Kelag’s electricity price increase is completely unfounded,” says FP club chairman Erwin Angerer. Therefore, the Liberals are now calling on the Carinthian state government to put a stop to the rising electricity costs. After all, energy costs are a price driver that not only affects private households, but could also dampen the economy. “Carinthia as a business location is being driven into the abyss,” says Christoph Staudacher, second president of the state parliament and energy spokesman for the Freedom Party. “We call on the state government to work towards lower electricity tariffs,” says Angerer. The Freedom Party submitted an application in May that included, among other things, the exit from the merit order system and a favorable electricity price cap Gaby Schaunig (SPÖ). “Schaunig must campaign for fair electricity prices at Kelag,” is the unanimous tenor of the Freedom Party. Schaunig counters: “Kelag is a stock corporation, the pricing is the sole responsibility of the group. According to the law, politics cannot and must not have any influence on this.”
