Negotiations for the supply of artillery shells to the Kiev army have been concluded by officials of the Czech government. The shipments will leave by April
One million artillery shells for Ukraine. The Kiev army will receive ammunition by April. Corriere della Sera is able to report that the initiative undertaken by the president of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, was successful. No official press releases have been released, but we know that the Prague government, together with around fifteen countries, has concluded the supply contracts, paying an estimated sum of around 1.8 billion euros.
At first a purchase of 800 thousand rounds was hypothesized: 500 thousand for the most used caliber (155 mm) and another 300 thousand of 122 mm. In the end, Czech government officials found 200,000 more. I don’t know which industries were contacted, although the rumors point, among other things, towards South Korea, Turkey and, perhaps, South Africa.
A few weeks ago, Pavel’s national security advisor, Tomas Pojar, announced that the first shipments would begin in June. Now we are accelerating: the shipments will leave by April. Among others, Germany, France, Holland, Norway, Sweden, Portugal, Belgium, Poland and Canada participated in the collection. There is no Italy in the group.
Only some of these states have declared the amount of the contribution. Sweden, for example, put 32.6 million on the table; Portugal 108, Norway 140. Germany may have paid 156 million euros. The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has been insisting for weeks on the urgency of having more shots available for the cannons located on the defensive line of Donbass. The imbalance of forces on the field is evident: on average the Russians fire 10,000 shots a day, five times more than the Ukrainians.
