The federal government has announced a new plan to protect tigers and tiger-inhabited forests across India.

Named the “Project Tiger”, the project was funded by the federal government in various installments.

2.83 crore has been allocated for the first installment. 1.60 crore for the second tranche and Rs. 1.89 crore for the third tranche.

The central government has issued a directive to this effect, which will focus on the prevention of tiger poaching, conservation of wild resources and prevention of wildfires.

Meanwhile, it has been announced that the Kalakadu Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve will be protected under a Rs. 6 crore project.

The Indian media has reported that the task of protecting the LTTE has begun with the financial assistance of the Central and State Governments.
