Ornella Vanoni was born in Milan on September 22, 1934, the daughter of a pharmaceutical industrialist, attends various boarding schools in Switzerland, France and England. As a child she dreams of being a beautician, but at 20 she falls in love with the theater and its teacher at the Piccolo Teatro school, Giorgio Strehler. Unique style and recognizable timbre, she interprets “the songs of the mala”, dialectal ballads inspired by crime news, but she also explores other styles. In 1960, she has a scandalous love affair with Gino Paoli: he is married, she would soon be married (with Luciano Ardenzi, the two also have a son, Cristiano). For a few years, he alternated between theater and music. In 1964 he took part in the play “Rugantino” by Garinei and Giovannini on stage on Broadway. In the 1970s he collaborated with Toquinho and the poet Vinicius de Moraes, then moved on to jazz with a young Paolo Fresu. In 1974, with the help of Danilo Sabatini (his partner at the time), he founded his own record company: Vanilla. She is one of the longest-running Italian artists: in business since 1956, she has released 41 albums, some with her own label. Among his greatest hits, “The appointment”, “Tomorrow is another day”, “Lipstick and chocolate” and “Just a little”. In 1977, she posed nude for the Italian version of Playboy asking for a sphere by the artist Arnaldo Pomodoro as a reward. He participates in eight Sanremo Festivals, winning the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1999 and in 2018 the one for best interpretation “Sergio Endrigo” and the Baglioni d’oro for “Learning to love each other”. It should also have taken part in the 1996 edition with “Bello amore”, but a few hours after the rehearsal the song goes on the radio with another text by Emilia Pellegrino. In September 2013 he released “Meticci” and declares that it will be his last album of unreleased songs, but in 2021 he returns with “Unica”.
