The debut work by Antonio Petrucci, originally from Battipaglia but Milanese by adoption

A book that takes its cue from padel, the sport-revelation of 2021, for an introspective analysis, partly autobiographical. It is called «Padel nostra – un love on the wire» and is the first work of Antonio Petrucci, a sports journalist originally from Battipaglia but Milanese by adoption. «The idea – explains the author – I had it a few years ago in Spain, when I casually played this sport with some people. I fell in love with it, and from there over time I have often thought about the idea of writing a story that also talked about padel. It is a particular sport. It is played only in doubles, it has a score equal to tennis, the measures of the court are smaller. It is played with a glass behind, a side grid, so the tactic is completely different. It is very unifying, but it is not so innovative, having been born over a century ago. There is a lot of curiosity around padel, and in 2020 it even exceeded the reservations for soccer throughout Italy ».

In the “Nord Est Milano” library

«Padel nostra» is the story of Paolo, an unsolved forty year old who tries to get involved again, after personal and professional failures. It will do so through unexpected intertwining and paths, which will confirm the desperate need for a rebirth, internal rather than social. The book, which is also available for purchase digitally, will soon also be an audio-book, to meet the needs of the visually impaired and older people who find it hard to read. Furthermore, it has recently been included in the catalog by the “Nord Est Milano” library system, which includes 9 municipalities in the Milanese province, in order to give all citizens of the area the opportunity to read it for free. “It would be nice tomorrow – concludes Petrucci – to have the same attention also from the town of Battipaglia, the city where I was born and lived until I was 22”.
