The Chinese oil and gas company PetroChina purchased the first batch of Merey oil from Venezuela after the lifting of US sanctions against this hydrocarbon producer by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in December. This was reported by Bloomberg, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to him, the cargo will be delivered on Saturday and will go to the oil refining and petrochemical complex in Jieyang in Guangdong province.

The United States lifted sanctions against Venezuela after in October, representatives of the leadership of this country and the opposition at negotiations in the capital of Barbados entered into an agreement to resume dialogue and organize the electoral process in the Bolivarian Republic in 2024.

The agreements provide for the rejection of any form of political violence against Venezuela and its institutions, recognition of the right of every politician to freely choose their candidate and the provision of guarantees to all participants in the elections. Presidential elections in the republic are scheduled to take place in the second half of 2024.

In this regard, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Venezuela must restore the political rights of a number of opposition leaders who, for this reason, cannot take part in the presidential elections, including the winner of the opposition primaries, Maria Corina Machado, by the end of November. Blinken’s statements caused an extremely negative reaction from the Venezuelan authorities, who accused Blinken of lying and blackmail. Caracas denies that these demands were included in the agreement with the radical opposition.
