New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has indirectly mocked the Supreme Court verdict that electoral bonds are unconstitutional. If it was today that he received the Aval pothi from Kuchelan, Sri Krishna would also be corrupt. Someone will take a video of this and file a Public Interest Litigation. The Prime Minister also said that the court would have judged it as corruption. The Prime Minister’s remarks were made during the program to launch development works worth Rs 10 lakh crore in Uttar Pradesh.

Last week, the Supreme Court gave its verdict canceling the electoral bond scheme introduced by the Modi government to collect donations for political parties. The historic judgment of the five-judge Constitution Bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud pointed out that the scheme is unconstitutional and the method of anonymous donation is a violation of the right of the citizens to know who is giving money to the parties.

The bench unanimously rejected the central government’s contention that the debenture scheme was meant to prevent money laundering through political donations and bring transparency by channeling donations through banks. The Chief Justice held that anonymous electoral bonds are against right to information and right to know Article 19(1) A. The Supreme Court ruled that the amendment to the Companies Act, which removed the limit on the incorporation of companies, was unconstitutional.
