Bolzano. Passports, the turning point has arrived. And it is no small turning point because, in Bolzano, and soon also in the rest of the province, it will no longer be necessary to wait months to get a passport. The new commissioner, Paolo Sartoriin fact, provided one reorganization of the passport office which is already giving excellent results and which, once fully operational, will allow us to acquire approximately 170 practices per day, compared to 70 a few weeks ago. Yesterday morning, the police commissioner himself and the provincial councilor were there to illustrate the news Ulli Mair; Maria Lomartirefirst manager and acting manager of the Passport Office and a superintendent.

«I certainly don’t have to explain to you what the problems are related to obtaining a passport throughout the country – said Sartori – and their resolution is one of the priorities of the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior. They are also going in this direction novelty that we have introduced in recent days. To be fair, however, it should be remembered that before issuing the passport, the police headquarters carry out a work of investigation to verify that the person who submitted the request has all the documents in order to obtain it”.

The staff will triple

The passport office staff, made up of state police officers and civilian employees, has increased from five to eleven. They will soon be joined by another four employees of the Province. This explains the presence at the press conference of councilor Mair who, yesterday, represented the provincial council and the councilor for personnel Magdalena Amhof. «In our program – explained Mair – we expressly talk about effective collaboration with the police forces present in the area. A collaboration that translates into providing personnel, as in this case, but also into financial support. The strengthening of the passport office is only the first of a series of projects we have in the pipeline, to improve services for citizens, but also to increase their security”.

More stations, faster

The workstations used to receive users go from two to three and, in the near future, will rise to five. An enhancement which, once fully operational, will allow the acquisition of approximately 170 practices per day instead of the previous 70. To get an idea of how much the situation will improve, just think that, to date, after the reorganization of the last few days, the daily incoming practices have already risen to 110.

Electronic diary without limits

The “sine die” opening of the ordinary agenda has been decided. To give a concrete example, it is now possible to make a reservation and obtain an appointment for October, under the ordinary diary regime. Thanks to the increase in daily places available resulting from the reorganisation, there is currently the possibility of booking the appointment by the end of April. Furthermore, for cases of justified and certified urgency, a special Priority Agenda has been established, which remains open for the following 30 days and is updated daily. In the event that the urgency is such that it is necessary to obtain the passport in less than 15 days, the citizen has the possibility of reporting this urgency by downloading a form included in the priority diary, then delivering it directly to the police station, in the morning office opening hours.

Stop the crafty people

“In the past – said Sartori – there have been cases of people and agencies booking the passport appointment and then getting paid”. This practice will no longer be possible because each access with a single Spid allows you to make reservations for a maximum of two people. People who will not be replaceable.

The commissioner’s appeals

In light of these changes, which will soon also concern the police stations of Merano, Bressanone, San Candido, Brennero and the Mals police station, the commissioner also asked the citizens for a commitment. «It is advisable – he explains – that people show up on the day they booked: on average, 10 percent of those booked do not show up for the appointment, thus slowing down the procedures. Then there are those who get their passport and don’t come to collect it: at the passport office, there have been 172 in storage for more than a month.”
