This Saturday, October 28, Pope Francis sent a telegram of condolences to the Bishop of Portland (United States), Bishop Robert Deeley, on the occasion of the mass shootings perpetrated on the night of Wednesday, October 25 in the city of Lewiston, which claimed the lives of at least 18 people and left another 13 injured.

The Holy Father expresses his spiritual closeness to “all those who suffer this indescribable tragedy, especially to the families who have lost their loved ones” and shows his “deep sadness” for the “terrible loss of human life caused by the mass shooting.” .

In the telegram, written in English and signed by the Secretary of State of the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Francis “commends the souls of the deceased to the loving mercy of Almighty God and prays for the recovery of the wounded and of the medical personnel who care for them.”
