Pride: the senior Israeli who stars in Mercedes’ international campaign

The global Mercedes company is launching an international campaign under the One of Many concept to promote equal opportunities for women, ahead of International Women’s Day. The campaign film focuses on three real women with a real and meaningful connection to Mercedes. And for the first time this year – Israeli representation in the global campaign: Adi Ofek, CEO of the Mercedes development center in Israel, shares her personal story.

Ofek, the most senior Israeli in Mercedes worldwide. She was born in Israel and joined Mercedes as a credit risk manager in April 2000, after which she held various international management positions. In the years 2014 to 2016, she served as the CEO of Mercedes-Benz Financial Services in Korea, and since November 2016 she has been the CEO of the Mercedes-Benz Research and Technological Development Center in Tel Aviv. In January 2019, Adi Ofek also received the responsibility for the IT security of Mercedes vehicles.

At the center of the campaign is Rima Joupali, Saudi Arabia’s first racing driver, who competes in the GT World challenge and drives a Mercedes-AMG GT3. Rima was born in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia in 1992 and is the first racing driver from Saudi Arabia. Rima got her US driver’s license in 2010 and when Saudi Arabia lifted the ban on women driving in 2017, she got her racing license. She competed in her first race for Saudi Arabia in the British F4 Championship in 2019 and that year became the first Saudi woman to compete in an international race in her home country.

Johanna Weiss was born in 2001 and is a professional competitor in the field of electronic sports. She has been an avid gamer since her early childhood and just a year after getting her first computer at the age of 14, played League Of Legends for the first time. She currently plays for the SK Gaming Avarosa project – a German team that promotes equal opportunity for female gamers and non-binary people.

In 2006, Mercedes set a goal to increase the share of women in senior management positions to 20 percent by the end of 2020, today it is already almost 25 percent. Now, Mercedes aims to reach 30 percent women in senior management by 2030. The board of Mercedes-Benz AG is almost 40 percent female, with three women out of eight members.

We are convinced that our ambitious business goals can only become a reality with the best talents in diverse teams. To make this happen, we want more talented women in management positions and to attract more talented women to careers in technical professions.”
