I recognize the complexity of public security and its profound psychological impact on society. The approach adopted by São Paulo’s public security secretary, Guilherme Derrite, a constitutionalist and former military street police officer,
in the response to criminal attacks against police officers in Santos,
highlights the importance of security management that is both strategically sound and psychologically sensitive to the needs of the State community.
The work carried out by a postgraduate in Constitutional Law, the first military police officer to assume such a position, who combines field experience with legal knowledge, offers a vision of security that is preventive, reactive and inclusive.
