Because of a new law, a lawsuit is also possible decades after the crime.
Minutes after a law to improve penalties for sexual violence came into force, author E. Jean Carroll again Lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump submitted. The longtime columnist for Elle magazine accuses Trump of raping her in a dressing room at a luxury department store in Manhattan in the 1990s.
State law allows victims of sexual violence to file sexual assault claims decades after the crime.
“She is not my type”
The legal representative of the author submitted the documents electronically. She is demanding compensation and fines in an undisclosed amount. Carroll first made the accusation against Trump in a book in 2019. Trump replied that the act was ruled out because Carroll was “not my type”. Because of his comments, Carroll filed a defamation lawsuit against the ex-president. However, the case is stuck in appellate courts as judges must determine whether Trump is protected from legal repercussions for statements he made as president.
So far, the author’s rape lawsuit could not be admitted because, under the previous regulations, too many years had passed since the alleged crime.
