Republic Day Celebrations in Chennai: Highlights from Various Government Offices and Schools

The 75th Republic Day was celebrated yesterday in the suburbs of Chennai. At the Chennai Corporation Ribbon House, Mayor Priya paid homage by hoisting the national flag. After flying the tricolor balloons, he assumed the honor of National Student Corps Scout – Scout.

He also visited the artistic performances of the Corporation School students. Subsequently, he gave certificates of appreciation to those who duly paid property tax to the corporation.

Likewise, he appreciated 137 officers and employees who had worked well in the Corporation and presented certificates and medals.

 Collector Rashmi Siddharth Jagade hoisted the national flag and took the marching honor of the police in a ceremony held at the Chennai Collectorate. Then, he honored 13 freedom struggle martyrs living in Chennai.

On this occasion, the Collector provided welfare assistance worth 14.91 lakh rupees to 36 beneficiaries in various departments including TADCO, Social Welfare Department, Disabled Persons Welfare Department, subsidy for sewing machines and two-wheelers.

He presented certificates of appreciation to 298 employees for their excellent work in various departments.

 At the Madras High Court, Chief Justice SV Gangapurwala, who was wearing a vest shirt, hoisted the national flag and paid his respects. He took the parade salute of the Central Industrial Security Forces. The security forces performed various adventures.

 At the Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner’s Office, State Election Commissioner Palanikumar hoisted the national flag and took the marching salute from the police.

 Controlling Officer Jayaseelan unfurled the national flag at the office of the Controller of Accounts, Defense Department, Chennai. At the ceremony, 100 ex-servicemen and their families were felicitated

 Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Subrat Mohapatra unfurled the National Flag at the Forest Department office on Guindy – Velachery Road.

 At Chennai Airport, its director Deepak hoisted the national flag. Heroic adventures of the Central Industrial Security Forces took place

 At the head office of the Chennai Metro Rail Corporation in Nandanam, its Managing Director Siddique hoisted the national flag and awarded prizes to 145 meritorious employees.

 Managing Director Alby John Varghese hoisted the national flag and distributed awards to 204 employees at the Municipal Transport Corporation’s headquarters on Pallavan Road.

 Commissioner Shankar unfurled the national flag and flew colorful balloons and doves at Avadi Police Commissionerate. At this function, 97 officers and policemen were awarded Chief Minister’s Medal and Appreciation Certificates.

The adventure of the armed police and the skill development programs of the sniffer dogs enthralled the visitors.

Similarly, all the government offices, zonal committee heads offices, schools and colleges hoisted the national flag and celebrated the Republic Day with grandeur. Art performances by students were also held.

Alumni meet

While Vivekananda Vidyalaya School in Perampur was celebrating its golden jubilee, an alumni reunion program was held yesterday, which was the Republic Day. More than 700 alumni who studied in the school since 1988 participated. Thirumangalam police station inspector, lawyers, doctors and many others were present. Former students shared their memories of going to the classroom where they studied and telling the teachers to take lessons and punish them. Some came in school uniform.

Awareness

At the Tambaram Corporation office, Mayor Vasantakumari hoisted the national flag. He gave certificates of appreciation to sanitation workers and corporation officials who worked well during the ‘Mikjam’ storm. Then, they went to the market area and urged the public to avoid the use of plastic and protect the environment, and distributed clothes bags to the roadside vendors.
