Rock in Rio announced singer Katy Perry in the festival’s lineup this year. The American artist will be the main attraction of the event on September 20, leading the day dedicated to women in music.
The organization also confirmed the performance of Gloria Gaynor, of the hit “I Will Survive”, and the Brazilian Iza on the date. The two singers will perform their shows on the Sunset stage.
Named “Dia Delas”, the date will also feature performances by singers Angelique Kidjo, who leads the program on the Global Village stage, and Ivete Sangalo, who had previously been announced as part of the work on the Mundo stage.
This will be the second time that the event promotes “Dia Delas”, after the first edition two years ago.
Rock in Rio 2024 marks the third occasion that Katy Perry comes to Brazil. The American debuted in the country in 2011 with the “California Dreams” tour and then repeated the feat in 2015 with the “Prismatic World Tour”. According to the event’s organizers, she is expected to sing the biggest hits of her career at the event, including “Hot N’ Cold”, “Roar” and “Dark Horse”.
The festival, one of the biggest music festivals in the world, takes place in Rio de Janeiro on the 13th, 14th, 15th, 19th, 20th, 21st and 22nd of September. In this year’s edition, names like Ed Sheeran, Joss Stone, Imagine Dragons and Lulu Santos are already confirmed.
