After almost seven years, the Rolling Stones have finally announced a new studio album. On Wednesday it will be announced what “Hackney Diamonds” is supposed to be about.

London.

First rumors that the legendary British band Rolling Stones themselves fanned – now it’s out: the musicians around frontman Mick Jagger (80) are releasing a new album. They want to talk to US talk show host Jimmy Fallon this Wednesday about this “new album, the new music and a new era”, as the Stones announced on their Instagram account on Monday evening. The 31st studio album is called “Hackney Diamonds”.

According to the British news agency PA Press, the interview with Fallon will take place in London’s Hackney district. It is scheduled to be streamed globally on the Rolling Stones’ YouTube channel, as per the Instagram Channel the band continues to be called. The Stones released their last studio album, Blue & Lonesome, in 2016.

The band had kept making vague hints about a new album. In August, for example, an advertisement for the fictitious glass repair company “Hackney Diamonds” appeared in the London local newspaper “Hackney Gazette”, which observers interpreted as a kind of advance notice. “Hackney Diamonds” is a local slang term for broken glass on the ground after a robbery, the BBC wrote in this context.

In addition, guitarist Keith Richards said in spring 2022 to the German Press Agency about drummer Steve Jordan, who took over for the late Charlie Watts: “Working with Steve Jordan somehow brought new energy and joie de vivre.” One now wants to see “what we can still do with the new cast. There is a lot in the works.” It was also recently reported that ex-bassist Bill Wyman and ex-Beatle Paul McCartney are said to have been in the studio with the Stones. (dpa)
