It was found that the content of oil products in seawater samples does not exceed the maximum permissible concentration, the Rospotrebnadzor said.

On Wednesday, it was reported that a criminal case was opened over the oil spill in the port of Novorossiysk. It will be investigated by the Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation on Transport. An environmental forensic examination was ordered in the case.

Oil was released from the Greek tanker Minerva Symphony on August 8, a few kilometers from the coastal zone, while loading from an offshore mooring facility belonging to the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC). At the same time, CPC clarified that the incident occurred at 16:49 Moscow time, by 22:42 the spill was localized. Later, the consortium announced that the spill was completed.

In turn, scientists from the Institute of Space Research and the Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences assessed the satellite image of the spill site and came to the conclusion that the area of ​​oil pollution on August 8 was almost 80 square meters. km, while CPC estimated it at 200 sq. m.

The CPC pipeline is an international oil transportation project with the participation of Russia, Kazakhstan and the world’s leading mining companies. It was created for the construction and operation of a main pipeline with a length of more than 1.5 thousand km. In 2018, the pipeline’s capacity was increased to 67 million tons of oil per year.
