Rostelecom will purchase 800,000 Russian routers from Electra

Rostelecom ordered the development of WiFi routers from Electra. The contract amount is 2.7 billion rubles. Representatives of the parties announced this during the demo day of the industrial competence centers “Mobile Communications” and “Fixed Communications” on October 12. The first deliveries of Russian WiFi5 standard routers will begin in November 2023, and deliveries of the next generation WiFi6 equipment should start in May 2024. Mass implementation of technologies should begin at the end of 2024.

The contract involves the production of WiFi equipment for FTTB and GPON technologies. FTTB (Fiber to the Building) is a fiber optic cable that goes to the building and a device that receives the signal in the building, and GPON is a network that reaches the subscriber directly. The cost of the project to develop and implement 350,000 FTTB CPE routers is 1.1 billion rubles, and 450,000 GPON ONT routers is 1.6 billion rubles, follows from the vendor’s presentation.
