Russia introduced quarantine for visitors from South Africa

by time news

The head of Rospotrebnadzor, Anna Popova, said that from today everyone who returns to Russia from South Africa must serve a two-week quarantine. This decision was made in connection with the discovery in Africa of a new strain of the coronavirus “omicron”. In Russia, this type of virus has not yet been identified.

“Today, the Russian Federation has introduced a two-week quarantine, but only for those returning from the Republic of South Africa and countries that have a direct border with South Africa,” said Ms Popova in an interview with Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.

The World Health Association (WHO) announced on November 30 that international travel should not be completely stopped due to the emergence of the omicron. According to the organization, this will not prevent the spread of the new variant, but it will affect the quality of life. In this regard, WHO has recommended PCR testing for travelers and quarantine.
