South Africa set a target of 212 for victory in the third and final Test of the series between South Africa and India. India were bowled out for 198 in the second innings with a slim lead of 13 in the first innings. Rishabh Pant’s innings saved India from defeat to South African bowlers. The Indian batsman, who scored his fourth Test century, was unbeaten on 100 off 139 balls with six fours and four sixes. His century came at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town in response to criticism that he was not responsible for his batting, that his shot selection was bad and that he did not understand the situation.

On the third day, India got off to a shaky start. He returned without adding a single run to yesterday’s score. Rahane, who replaced Pujara, did not live long. Rabada returned the favor with just one run off nine balls. Later, Virat Kohli and the ball came together for the fifth wicket. India were 58 for four before being bowled out for 94 in the fifth over.

While Rishabh smashed the ball in ODI style, Kohli, on the other hand, played defensively. South Africa were on the defensive as the two slowly took the field together. In the end, NGD broke the tie by dismissing Kohli for 29 off 143 balls. NGD put Kohli in the hands of Markrat and then dismissed Ashwin (seven off 15 balls). India were 162 for six. The scoreboard moved with the ball level on one side but the wickets kept falling on the other. With the sudden return of Shardul Thakur (five off 13 balls), Umesh Yadav (0) and Mohammad Shami (0), the Indian camp and fans feared that the ball would be missed. But Jaspreet Bumra, the 11th wicket-taker, completed the century. India ended the innings at 198 with Yansen returning Bumra (2) after completing the ball century. Openers KL Rahul (10 off 22 balls) and Mayank Agarwal (seven off 15 balls) were out in the final session on the second day.

For South Africa, Marco Jansen, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada took three wickets each.

Since both teams have won each of the three matches in the series, the team that wins the match can win the series.
