Safar branch (photo PR) With much fanfare, the international “Spar” chain officially opened its first branch in Israel in the city of Kfar Saba, with another one in Be’er Sheva on the way. But is the chain that plans to open 35 branches in a short time really worthwhile for you as customers? In Israel today they conducted an inspection of the entire shopping experience as well as the prices and it is claimed that the branch is indeed spacious, including a cafe, a chilled beer area, a fruit and vegetable cutting station, and a surprise in the form of a bowling lane where you can play after shopping.

According to the test they conducted with a uniform basket of products, Rami Levy was the cheapest basket with a price of NIS 1,038.59 while Shufersal Deal was the most expensive with a basket cost of NIS 1,135.94. A gap of 9.37% between the chains, Safar is actually only placed sixth out of the eight chains under review.

Israel Hayom’s investigation found that the basket at Sapar was 6% more expensive than that of Rami Levy, and 3.2% more expensive than that of the Yohannoff chain. The inspection also found that Victory, Carrefour Market and the market warehouses were cheaper. In the inspection of Sapar’s private label, which includes 750 imported products, several products were found that were cheaper than the competitors.

The Safar chain stated: “We value the Yohannoff chain as the best chain in Israel today, and that is why we chose to stick to its low and fair prices. If there is a gap, it is due to a technical error only and we will make sure to fix it. We assume that if there was a comparison of the shopping experience, Safar would be the leader by dozens percent compared to the other chains. We will welcome any chain that promotes the experience of order, cleanliness and service. We believe that within a few years more chains will be able to provide a truly international experience.”
