Sarah became the youngest woman to travel the world alone

The 19-year-old has set a world record for the youngest woman to travel the world alone. Sarah Rutherford, a British citizen from Belgium, achieved this feat by flying around the world in 155 days. Rutherford holds the Guinness Book of World Records for surpassing American aviator Chesta Weiss’s. Rutherford traveled 52,000 kilometers (28,100 nautical miles) and visited 41 countries on five continents.

Sarah met the criteria for the World Tourist title to visit two points on opposite sides of the earth, Zambi in Indonesia and Tumako in Colombia. In addition to being the youngest woman to travel the world alone, Sarah already holds the Guinness World Record for the youngest woman to fly around the world on a plane. Sarah was also the first Belgian to fly around the world alone on a plane.

Sarah began her journey on August 18, 2021 aboard the 325 kg Shark UL single propeller. The journey was more difficult than expected. However there were many amazing moments along the way. Sarah said she feared North Korea would test missiles without warning.
