Nam Tamilar Party Chief Coordinator Seeman strongly condemned the closure of meat shops in Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Mahaveer Tirunal. In a statement, Seeman criticized the DMK government’s notification for the closure of butcher shops, as it interferes with people’s food choices. He deemed the action as fascism and a blatant betrayal of democracy.

While Mahaveer’s birthday is admirable and should be celebrated, closing down butcher shops for the convenience and sentiments of the Marwadis celebrating the festival is unacceptable. Seeman also pointed out that there is no holiday in Rajasthan for Pongal, a festival of the Tamils, and it is not right to ban Tamils from eating meat just because Marwadis celebrate Mahavira’s day. He concluded by emphasizing that the DMK government should be a government for all instead of satisfying one party.

Chennai: “The DMK government, which claims to be a government for all, is strongly condemning the autocratic trend of closing down meat shops in various places of Tamil Nadu on the occasion of Mahaveer Tirunal to satiate one party,” Nam Tamilar Party Chief Coordinator Seeman said.

In a statement issued in this regard, he said, “It is shocking that the DMK government has issued a notification that meat shops should be closed today in various parts of Tamil Nadu, including the Coimbatore Corporation. There is no alternative to the fact that Mahaveer is admirable and that his birthday should be celebrated.

But it is never acceptable to call for the closure of butcher shops on the pretext of that. Food is their discretion; It is fascism when the government interferes and prohibits it. Butcher shops are forcibly closed for the sentiments of the Marwari people who embrace Jainism here. This is a reprehensible move.

While there is no holiday in Rajasthan for Pongal, the festival of Tamils, it is not right to close down the butcher shops in Tamilnadu for the convenience and sentiment of the Marwadis celebrating Mahaveer’s festival. Banning Tamils from eating meat just because the Marwadis celebrate Mahavira’s day is a blatant betrayal of democracy.

The DMK government, which claims to be a ‘Government for all’, is strongly condemning the autocratic trend of closing down meat shops in various parts of Tamil Nadu to satisfy one party,” said Seeman.
