SEHA hosts the third Abu Dhabi Integrated Mental Health Conference

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, January 20, 2023: In cooperation with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Health Services Company “SEHA”, the largest healthcare network in the UAE, is organizing the third Abu Dhabi Integrated Mental Health Conference on January 21 and 22, 2023 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

The capital Abu Dhabi’s hosting of the conference’s activities is a consolidation of its position as a leading healthcare destination, as it aims to shed light on ways to strengthen plans and mechanisms related to mental health and to continue improving the health and safety of all members of society. Including speakers from the USA, UK, Uganda, Germany, UAE, Lebanon, Canada, and Australia.

The most prominent topics of the conference include the strategies and initiatives launched by Abu Dhabi to promote mental health among community members, health care models for mental health around the world, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on mental health, mental health in children, mental health between diagnosis and treatment and other related topics.

In this regard, Dr. Nahida Niaz Ahmed, Consultant Psychiatrist and Chair of the Behavioral Health Council at SEHA and Chair of the Mental Health Task Force at the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, said: “We have always been convinced of the importance of facilitating access to mental health care services, which is the primary goal. This event will contribute to stimulating dialogue on mental health across a variety of sectors, which will reflect positively on the community we serve.”

To add a global perspective to the event, the first day program will include sessions highlighting different models of mental health care from around the world, Dr. Simon Stavris will give an important talk on “Fixing the Fractured Mental Health System in Victoria, Australia” and Dr. Kirsten Messinger will speak and Prof. Bertolt Langguth and Carla Thorp on models of mental health and psychiatric care in the USA, Germany and Canada, respectively. Moreover, a large part of the first day’s program will be devoted to focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on mental health and the response in various countries of the world to the impact of the pandemic on mental health.

The second day’s program will focus on neuropsychiatry topics, with Dr. Asanga Fernando speaking on ‘Integrating new and emerging technologies into practice and education – lessons learned from a major hospital in London’. Another topic that the conference will focus on during the second day is “Integration of Primary Care with Psychological Data and Insights” with Dr. Cairo Arafat and Jamila Al-Buraiki, who will discuss the issue of mental health for child protection. In addition, sessions will address a wide range of topics related to mental health in the workplace and the impact of diseases such as cancer and infertility on compassionate approaches in clinical practice.

The conference will conclude with a series of workshops on “Domestic Violence and Trauma Counseling”, “Promoting Mental Health Resilience in Schools” and others.

In addition to providing a space for pioneering research in the field of mental health, the conference will be a unique opportunity to network, network and meet experts from all over the world.
