In a shocking revelation, State Home Minister Anil Vij disclosed that 24 sexual assault complaints have been filed by sportspersons in Haryana over the course of five years. The minister made this disclosure in response to a question posed by INLD MLA Abhay Singh during the assembly session.

The most alarming aspect of this revelation is the fact that complaints have also been lodged against Haryana Minister Sandeep Singh. The minister stated that these complaints were filed from January 1, 2019 to December 2023, and that the case involving Sandeep Singh is currently under trial.

The complaints have been filed against various individuals including teammates, coaches, and officials. The numbers are equally shocking, with five cases registered in 2019, two in 2020, six in 2021, three in 2022, and eight in 2023. It is disheartening to note that six of these cases were withdrawn by the complainants, while in four cases, the accused were acquitted due to insufficient evidence at the trial stage.

At present, 14 cases, including the case involving the minister, are being tried. The complaints also include allegations against a female coach and her son.

This news is certainly cause for concern, and it calls for immediate action to address the issue and provide support to the victims of these heinous crimes. The safety and well-being of sportspersons, especially women, should be a top priority, and it is essential that steps are taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
