Racing Incident Report Highlights Bumping, Unbalanced Runners, and Jockey Injury
A series of incidents marked today’s races, with multiple horses experiencing bumps at the start and during the run, leading to unbalanced positions and, in one case, a jockey aggravating a pre-existing injury. Several horses were also selected for post-race sampling.
Early Race Chaos and Jockey Concerns
The start of the race was particularly turbulent, with several horses reporting being bumped. Flowing Riches (K293), ridden by M L Yeung, “shifted out at the start and was bumped,” according to the official report. Yeung later reported that his mount “lay out and away from Smart Golf after the 200 Metres.” More concerningly, Yeung experienced a setback during the concluding stages. “After the 100 Metres when he used the whip in his left hand he aggravated an old injury to his left shoulder which restricted him being able to fully apply the whip,” the report detailed. Fortunately, Yeung was examined by the Chief Medical Officer and “passed fit to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.”
Multiple Runners Affected by Contact
The disruptions weren’t limited to the start. Sight Hermoso (L003), piloted by B Avdulla, also “bumped on jumping” and was subsequently “sent for sampling post-race.” Aquaman (K523), ridden by A Badel, “jumped only fairly and then was bumped by Flowing Riches which shifted out.” Further complicating matters, near the 450-meter mark, Aquaman “made contact with Fortune Warrior and became unbalanced due to both runners shifting ground.”
Green Runners and Shifting Positions
Several horses displayed inexperience, described as “racing greenly.” Chater Flash (L082), with J McDonald aboard, “bumped heavily at the start” and “raced greenly throughout the event.” McDonald also noted that his horse “was shifted to the outside of Hyannis Star to obtain clear running” near the 200-meter mark, but “could not be ridden out when being eased to avoid Honorary which shifted in.” Hyannis Star (K331), ridden by A Atzeni, also “raced greenly throughout the event” and “made contact with Chater Flash shortly after the start and became unbalanced.”
Late-Race Challenges and Veterinary Checks
As the race progressed, further challenges arose. Smart Golf (L004), ridden by M F Poon, “hung out when placed under pressure over the final 300 Metres, resulting in its rider…having to stop riding and straighten near the 150 Metres.” This horse was also “sent for sampling post-race.” Viva Firecracker (L065) experienced difficulty finding a clear path, “had difficulty obtaining clear running between the 250 Metres and the 150 Metres” and “blundered when being shifted to the inside of Flowing Riches.”
Veterinary inspections following the race did not reveal any significant findings for Chater Flash, Lucky Plus (L018), ridden by M Guyon, or Hyannis Star. However, Packing Glory (L013), ridden by Z Purton, was also “sent for sampling post-race.”
The incidents highlight the unpredictable nature of horse racing and the challenges faced by both horses and jockeys in navigating a crowded field. The post-race sampling and veterinary checks underscore the commitment to ensuring the well-being of the animals involved.
