Shia Feigenbaum and Giovanni Russo were guests on the conversation of the day podcast on ONE on the occasion of the new season of “Gollstar Greece” on HOT and continued the laughs and arguments between them in an episode that should not be missed. Ben Friedman hosted two of the great players who stepped on the soccer fields in Israel in the past and in the coaching staff of the Golstar team in the present: “We think that our relationship, the emotions, the arguments and what happens on the field is a joke, but everything is real.”
About the upcoming season, Shia and Giovanni said: “They kept telling us on the street that everyone is waiting for the new season, they asked us when we are coming back and if the upcoming season will be like in Morocco. This season we laughed and cried a lot, we were sensitive and that is the secret of success. Everyone tells me (to Shia) that the whole family sits down during the week to watch the show together.”
Shia and Giovanni had great careers in Israel and about this Shia said: “Already at the age of 5 I would stand behind the goal of the great Khudorov and return balls to the field, as a child in the dressing room I would also shine shoes for the stars. At my peak I sold my car, I didn’t need it because at the end of the game the fans would carry me on their shoulders all the way home.”

Shia also referred to the success of Eyal Golan, who fills stadiums with his performances: “When I filled Bloomfield, Eyal was a child, but now it’s his time, what I brought in football, he brings as a singer. Giovanni came to Israel at the age of 24 to play for Hapoel Be’er Sheva after Eli Gutman discovered him in a game in Croatia: “Gutman came for one game, he even came to see a midfielder, suddenly he saw me and told me Giovanni I want you to come to Israel. I didn’t know what Israel was and I asked what I would do there.”

There is no doubt that the relationship between Shia and Giovanni is special and they assure us that even in this season in Greece we won’t stop laughing: “I don’t have a minute of rest from him, all the time he (Giovanni) takes the juice out of me and drives me crazy, he would disturb me while I was talking to Actors, I would stand on the podium and he suddenly pushes me, we are like little children.” On the fights during the games, they added: “The problem started during the games. People think that what happens on the field is a joke, but everything is real.” Shia agrees with Giovanni: “Even Hamimo is real, I need an interpreter to understand what he is saying.”

Giovanni and Shia experienced quite a few funny moments during their career with the crowd on the pitches. Giovanni shared one moment he will never forget: “I was a Hapoel Haifa player, there was a derby and my mother was in the audience. All the Maccabi Haifa fans called my name Giovanni Russo and then cursed me. My mother told me – Giovanni, everyone loves you very much here, I laughed and told her you are right”.

Giovanni and Shia were asked about the inevitable comparison between Oskar Gloch and Anan Halaili as the greatest talents of Israeli football. Regarding this and the relationship between him (Rousseau) and Halaili, he responded: “A few days ago I caught him and told him come on boy you have some time to go have fun, meet girls, I wanted to check him because I check the players all the time. He responded to me, what girls do I have training. He is a professional and good boy, his nose is not up at all and he will be more successful than we know.”
Giovanni has already taken a position of honor in the Golstar coaching staff as the great assistant coach and admitted that he started to think about a professional coaching career in the future: “It never interested me but recently it’s starting to tickle my fancy. I mainly think, it’s not easy to be a coach, from the fans’ point of view you can win 20 games and after one draw you’re no longer good, but it’s action and it’s interesting.” Shia also added about himself: “Show me another coach who has been in the team for over 12 years in a row.”

Shia complained that the current squad they brought him was mediocre, while Giovanni claimed that Shia was crying because his team always lost to the other team. After that, Shia recalled the moment that hurt him the most from the Morocco Goalstar season: “There is a final, Giovanni in my team, as far as I’m concerned, I chose a legendary player. We lead 0:1 and give a show, suddenly he falls and twists his knee. I asked Giovanni to stay until the end of the game because it’s the final and he tells me he can’t.
“I told him to stand at the goal, you don’t have to run, just keep the score, but he told me he couldn’t do it. In the end he came out and we lost 2:1. A few days passed, we returned to Israel and Giovanni is a candidate for surgery, suddenly I see on TV the championship celebrations of Maccabi Haifa and Giovanni is dancing, he sold me and that’s all.”
