Russian President Vladimir Putin is traveling abroad for the first time since an international arrest warrant was issued against him. His destination: Kyrgyzstan.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov announced Putin’s visit to Kyrgyzstan at the end of September, but did not give a date. It will be Putin’s first trip abroad since the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant against the Russian leader in March over his role in the abduction of Ukrainian children to Russia. Since then, Putin has had to expect arrest when traveling abroad. At the invitation of Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov, Putin will pay a state visit to the ex-Soviet republic of Kyrgyzstan from October 12th, the Kabar news agency reported. Putin will take part in the summit and gala on Friday next week Putin will therefore attend a summit of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in Bishkek and a gala to mark the 20th anniversary of the opening of a Russian military base in Kyrgyzstan.
