Several EU countries, dissatisfied with Hungary’s policy in building relations with Russia, are considering the possibility of boycotting the informal summit of the association, which will be held on November 7-8 under the chairmanship of Budapest. The Euractiv portal reported this with reference to sources, Day.Az reports with reference to TASS.

According to him, some EU states can also delegate their voices to countries that will take part in the summit, so that they speak on their behalf. However, the majority of members of the association consider such steps to be premature. “Many of them (countries dissatisfied with Hungary’s policies – TASS note) will closely monitor what happens in the coming weeks and how Budapest behaves on the eve of the summit,” an unnamed European diplomat explained their position.

At the same time, another Euractiv interlocutor suggested that the main challenge for Budapest may not be the number of participants at the summit, but the behavior of the European leaders invited to this event. “Some EU leaders may decide that they want to meet with non-governmental organizations and discuss in detail certain political topics with local (Hungarian – TASS) media,” he said.

Previously, several European states had already boycotted several events held in Budapest during the Hungarian presidency of the Council of the EU. Some of the leaders of these countries directly stated that the decision was politically motivated, others cited a busy schedule and heavy workload.
