A source in the space industry told RIA Novosti that by the end of 2022, the Russian authorities plan to withdraw from the lease and return to the government of Kazakhstan 16 objects at the Baikonur cosmodrome.

According to the interlocutor, the Russian side has already compiled a list of such unpromising facilities from the point of view of further use.

As specified, it includes not only real estate, but part of the property has a residual value. At the moment, the employees of the special commission are considering the possibility of removing this property from the Russian balance sheet and returning it to Kazakhstan.

Earlier, the Head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said that the state corporation plans to withdraw from the lease the facilities it does not need at the Baikonur cosmodrome. “We do not operate these facilities, it makes no sense to be responsible for them, so whether it is scrap metal or other materials, they must be disposed of,” Rogozin noted then.
