Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) have been organizing ‘road shows’ in various countries for the past few years to increase the expansion of the country’s capital market in the international arena and attract foreign investment. A high-level business delegation of South Africa-Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum (IORBF) and Black Business Council (BBC) has visited Bangladesh to strengthen trade and investment. Representatives of BSEC, BIDA, various companies of capital market and brokerage houses have met with them.

On Tuesday (March 12), a meeting was held with the South African business delegation at BSEC’s multipurpose hall in Agargaon, capital. The meeting was organized jointly by BSEC and BIDA.

This information was informed in a press release sent by BSEC on Wednesday (March 13). The meeting was attended by a South African business delegation led by Nkuthula Patience Ndlovu, President of the South Africa-Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum (IORBF).

At that time, Prime Minister’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F. Rahman, BSEC chairman Prof. Shibli Rubaiyat ul-Islam, Commissioner Sheikh Samsuddin Ahmed, Abdul Halim, Dr. Mizanur Rahman and Dr. Rumana Haque Besides, representatives of Beza, Bepza, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the meeting.

The directors and senior officials of Walton Group, BD Thai Aluminum, Gemini Sea Food, Nahi Aluminum Composite Panel, BBS Cables, Pran Agro, ACI Agro, Square Food & Beverage, Meghna Group, Pertex Cables participated in the meeting.

Apart from this, among the brokerage houses were City Brokerage, UCB Stock Brokerage, BRAC EPL Stock Brokerage, Director of Lankabangla Securities and senior officials were present.

Also among the trade associations were representatives of FBCCI, BGMEA, BASIS, BKMEA, BGMEA University and Butex.

The South African business delegation held this meeting to further strengthen investment and trade relations with Bangladesh. In the meeting, the representatives of Bangladeshi companies presented information about the potential and opportunities of investment in Bangladesh. As a result, the representatives of both countries are indicating the possibility of wide expansion of foreign trade of Bangladesh.

It should be noted that the representatives of the South Africa-Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum visited Dhaka on March 11. They will visit Bangladesh till March 26. Earlier on August 23, 2023, ‘The Rise of Bengal Tiger: Bangladesh Trade and Business Summit’ was successfully held at Radisson Hotel and Convention Center in Johannesburg, South Africa under the initiative of BSEC and BIDA. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present at the event. There, South African businessmen-investors are given an idea about Bangladesh’s capital market, trade and investment possibilities.
