South Africa’s legendary all-rounder and former coach Mike Proctor has passed away. He was taken to the intensive care unit as his condition worsened during surgery due to heart problems. This is where the Protea legend fell to his death on Saturday. He was 77 years old.

Proctor is regarded as one of the greatest pace bowling all-rounders of all time. After his playing career, he served as a cricket coach and ICC match referee. Proctor has also worked in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) as a match referee.

Proctor played 7 Tests in international cricket. The number would have been even higher had South Africa not been banned due to apartheid. He showed glimpses in those 7 Tests. He took 41 wickets at an average of 15.02. He has shown glimpses in first class cricket as well. He has 1 thousand 417 wickets in 401 matches. About 22,000 runs with the bat. 109 fifties with 48 centuries.

The Proteas played in the semi-finals of the 1992 World Cup under him as coach. There they were left behind by the controversial Rain Act of the time.

Proctor served as ICC match referee from 2002 to 2008. He has served in 47 Tests, 162 ODIs and 15 T20Is. He also worked as the head of the selection committee of South Africa for some time.
