Opposition Chief Whip and General Secretary of Jatiya Party (JAPA) Mujibul Haque Chunnu has raised the question as to why the money for Chittagong University (CHB) admission form is not deposited in the university fund.

He raised this question in an unscheduled discussion at the National Parliament session on Sunday (February 18). At this time, Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku presided over the session.

Chunnu said that Tk 23 crore from the sale of admission forms for this session in Chabi has been divided among the VC, Pro VC, teachers and Chhatra League. Not credited to university fund. If this happens every year, how is the country doing? I can’t think. I will say to the Minister of Education… If this is true then it is a serious crime. You tell the people of this country. I want to know how is this possible?

He said, this year (2024) Chittagong University has earned Tk 21 crore 91 lakh by selling admission forms. Total income including service charges is 23 crores. Last year this income was 17 crore 14 lakh taka. This money from the sale of forms was shared by the teachers including the vice-chancellor and vice-chancellor. Chhatra League has also asked for 2 percent share of this money like in the past. Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Shirin Akhtar’s tenure has already completed four years, the position of Vice-Chancellor may change at any time. Chhatra League believes that if the vice-chancellor changes, getting the share of money from the sale of this form will become uncertain. So they are also focused on continuous struggle.

He said, a responsible source of Jabir said, it is final that he is not getting any new responsibility due to various controversial activities of Vice-Chancellor Shirin Akhtar. Therefore, the administration is not going to make any compromises with the BCL. Shireen Akhtar is unwilling to pay any more money if the post of vice-chancellor is not confirmed. Chhatra League keeps the campus warm to share the admission fee every year. This year is no exception.

Japa General Secretary said that Chhatra League wants two percent of the entrance exam fee of 21 crore 91 lakh, that amount is 43 lakh. They are saying that they have to pay 50 lakhs by increasing another 7 lakhs. The admission test money never goes to the university fund, seriously, it’s a country! This year also 21 crore 91 lakh, last year 17 crore 40 lakh, so much money is not deposited in the university account. It is gross violation of law, gross injustice.
