Southampton does not forgive at home and defeats Watford in an FA Cup replay

by time news

This Tuesday (6), six teams took to the field for the replay of the 4th round of the FA Cup. In the most important duel, Southampton took no notice of Watford, won 3-0 at St Mary’s Stadium and advanced to the round of 16 of the national knockout stage. After 1-1 at Vicarage Road, the Saints knew how to impose themselves at home and beat the Hornets without any fear.

Despite the loose score, Southampton encountered difficulties in the initial stage and saw a brave Watford on the field. So much so that they only managed to open the score in the 2nd half. In the seventh minute, Che Adams received a pass at the edge of the area and, with a subtle touch, left Sékou Mara face to face with Daniel Bachmann. The French striker got on his feet and beat the goalkeeper. Shortly afterwards, at 13′, the duo worked again and the Saints extended the score. Tyler Dibling launched a quick counterattack, passed to Che Adams who, at first, found Sékou Mara on the left. The number 18 dominated and shot to the right of the opposing archer, who could do nothing.

With 31′ on the clock, Che Adams, who had already distributed two assists, found the net and closed Watford’s coffin. In a cross coming from the left, the number 10 ‘played dead’ in the area, anticipated the marking and deflected it towards the goal. Sold in the move, Daniel Bachmann had no reaction, other than complaining about the failure of his defensive teammates after the ball had entered.

Leeds United are struggling (again), but guarantee classification in extra time with the right to a rout

After a disappointing 1-1 draw at home, Leeds United had to go to Home Park Stadium, home of Plymouth Argyle, to fight for a place in the round of 16 of the FA Cup. Daniel Farke’s team had much more play, but again made mistakes, which almost cost them the classification. That said, only in extra time did the visitors manage to confirm their favoritism.

At 21′ of the 2nd half, in a quick offensive plot by Leeds, Glen Kamara made a pass to Wilfried Gnonto at the edge of the area. The Italian striker had time to dominate and fill Conor Hazard’s right corner, who could do nothing. Despite the blow, Plymouth did not give up and went in search of a draw. With 33′ on the clock, the home team lifted the ball into the Leeds area, Ashley Phillips moved into the middle and found Brendan Galloway, who only had the job of pushing: 1-1.

In extra time, Leeds’ technical superiority spoke louder. At seven minutes (1st half), Crysencio Summerville made a beautiful individual play on the left, invaded the area, messed up Ashley Phillips and hit a beautiful shot into the corner, with no chance for the goalkeeper. This time Plymouth conceded the blow and the visitors knew how to take advantage of it to kill the game. In the 2nd half, Caleb Roberts lost the ball in midfield, Crysencio Summerville received it quickly and left Georginio Rutter free to score. The 21-year-old striker hit the first time, chewed up, and expanded.

And there was still time for one more. With three minutes to go, Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie deflected a corner kick against his own goal and turned Leeds’ victory into a rout.

Coventry City passa fácil pelo Sheffield Wednesday

Another team that also scored in the replay of this 4th round of the FA Cup was Coventry City. Kasey Palmer, Callum O’Hare (twice) and Haji Wright found the net and led the 4-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday at home at the Ricoh Arena.
