Sporting KC Set to Kick off Preseason Ahead of MLS Season Opener
Sporting Kansas City is gearing up for the 2024 preseason as they prepare for their season opener on Feb. 24, which will mark the earliest MLS match in club history. The team will be looking to build on their success from last season, where they reached the Western Conference Semifinals after sweeping rivals St. Louis CITY SC in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs.
The club’s top four players in goal contributions from last season will all be returning in 2024, including Daniel Salloi, Alan Pulido, Erik Thommy, and Johnny Russell. Pulido, who was the club’s MVP with 15 goals last season, and Thommy, the club’s Offensive Player of the Year with 13 assists, will provide SKC with a dynamic duo of playmakers in the No. 9 and No. 10 roles.
In addition to their returning players, Sporting KC will also face off against Inter Miami CF, who will be traveling to Kansas City for the first time in club history to play Sporting KC on April 13. Inter Miami had a memorable campaign last season, qualifying for the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup and finishing as runners-up in the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Led by co-owner David Beckham, Inter Miami’s roster features the four most accomplished newcomers in Major League Soccer, including Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, who recently reunited after winning the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Champions League as teammates for FC Barcelona from 2014-2020.
The matchup between Sporting KC and Inter Miami on April 13 will kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT exclusively on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, providing fans with an exciting and highly-anticipated game.
