Security forces on Tuesday intensified operations to quell protests in the Kurdish provincial capital of Sanandaj following the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman arrested by cultural police in Iran.

In this regard, the volunteers said: The police opened fire on Tuesday to disperse the protestors in Sanandaj. Apart from this, a large number of anti-riot policemen have been deployed in the area and are attacking the protestors, according to the volunteers.

Earlier, some oil company workers also joined the protest on Monday. Iran’s most important oil industry workers have joined in this protest, which has been going on for more than 4 weeks, has caused a stir. Oil company workers have called for a strike on Tuesday and the following Wednesday (Oct. 12).

Masha Amini was arrested by cultural police on the 13th of last month on charges of not wearing the hijab, which covers the head according to Iranian regulations. He went into a coma while in custody and later died. This has created turmoil across the country. Following that, protests are being held across the country for the 4th week against the country’s dress code laws.
