More than 80% of shopkeepers in Guatemala are optimistic

This study, which marks the first wave of the Insider Tendero analysis in the country, produced encouraging figures that reflect the confidence and positive expectations of retail merchants in the Guatemalan market.

According to the general director of the consulting firm, of the total number of shopkeepers surveyed in the study, “84% of them believe that their business will be better within a year, while 44% feel optimistic about the next five years.”

A positive perspective implemented by Guatemalan shopkeepers

«This is the first wave of the Insider Tendero study in Guatemala, and the results are very overwhelming. The country’s shopkeepers are very optimistic and the perception of the future is very positive,” declared Iván Carrillo, general director of dichter & neira in Guatemala.

Among other results of the study, it is revealed that half of shopkeepers consider making investments in their establishments, including improvements such as refrigerators, cash registers, shelves and other assets; and that an impressive 70% report that their stores are experiencing better financial performance than the previous year.

The positivism of Guatemalan shopkeepers could influence the implementation of the changes and improvements mentioned and this, in turn, be one of the factors that contribute to the better performance of their businesses.

What is the Shopkeeper Confidence Index?

The Shopkeeper Confidence Index (ICT) developed by dichter & neira is an economic indicator inspired by the Consumer Confidence Index of the University of Michigan. Its purpose is to measure the perception and expectations of shopkeepers in relation to the economic conditions of the country and their own businesses.

The ICT is used as a thermometer for manufacturers of mass consumption products, allowing them to plan strategies based on specific data provided by shopkeepers. This helps them make informed decisions and adapt their approaches in the market according to the confidence and expectations of retailers.
