/ The Syrian Ministry of Defense announced on Tuesday that 8 soldiers and a civilian were killed and 13 others were injured, including two civilians, when an explosive device exploded on a military bus in the Syrian desert south of Palmyra.

Earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that a surprise attack was launched by ISIS on a military bus in central Syria.

The Observatory explained that the organization’s members “launched a bloody attack on a military transport bus in the Palmyra desert in the eastern countryside of Homs,” killing “at least 14 members of the Syrian army forces” and wounding others.

This is the second attack of its kind by the extremist organization against the army forces this month, as 9 members of the Syrian army forces and gunmen loyal to them were killed as a result of a surprise attack launched on January 1 against military sites in eastern Syria, according to the Observatory’s tally.

The organization often adopts targeting points belonging to several parties or buses carrying soldiers or public employees, especially in the sprawling Badia region, to which its fighters retreated after being defeated from the last areas under their control in eastern Syria.
