Taiwanese army fires live ammunition at Chinese drones

“The more the enemy provokes us, the more our army must remain calm, in control, but that does not mean that our army will not retaliate” : Hours after Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen uttered the words during her Tuesday, August 30 visit to the military base on Penghu Island, the Taiwanese army took action.

According to the Taiwan News Agency Central News Agency, at 4:08 p.m. local time, upon discovering a Chinese civilian drone hovering over the airspace of the Shiyu area near Kinmen Island, “the garrison immediately followed the warning, signaling, distancing and defensive fire procedures”. Like Kinmen, the islet of Shiyu is located much closer to China than to Taiwan, only about ten kilometers from the Chinese city of Xiamen. The agency specifies that, just after the shootings, the drone “flew towards Xiamen”.
