Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has issued an ordinance allocating Rs 25 crore to develop sports infrastructure in Chennai.

In order to implement those announcements, the Mayo Radhakrishnan Hockey Stadium at a cost of Rs 11.34 crore, the Jawaharlal Nehru Sports Stadium at a cost of Rs 5.71 crore and the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Sports Stadium at a cost of Rs 2.35 crore to upgrade the more than 25 years old sports infrastructure in Chennai to international standards. A government order has been issued for the development of the Velachery swimming pool complex at a cost of Rs 4.72 crore and the Nungambakkam tennis stadium at a cost of Rs 88 lakh for a total of Rs 25 crore.

It is said to be a testament to Chief Minister M.K.Stal’s lofty ambition to make Tamil Nadu the headquarters of Indian sports.
