CHENNAI: The work of upgrading Gadpadi Railway Station in Velwar district to international standard at a cost of Rs 329.32 crore is going on in full swing. The works will be completed by 2026, Southern Railway officials said.

Under the Railways Renovation Plan, development works are underway at railway stations including Egmore, Rameswaram, Gadpadi, Madurai, Kanyakumari.

A private company has been selected to upgrade the Gadbadi railway station to international standards at a cost of Rs 329.32 crore and the work order has been awarded in September 2022.

In this case, the initial phase of work like soil testing and land measurement has been completed and the next phase of work has started.

Southern Railway officials said:

Katpadi railway station is a major junction on the Southern Railway. Here, we are going to raise adequate infrastructure facilities for passenger and train operation to international standards.

We are going to upgrade it with various features including two huge buildings, bus stand complex, comfortable waiting rooms, food courts, huge parking lot, ‘escalators’, footbridge, ‘lifts’, surveillance cameras, children’s play areas, local merchandise outlets.

All the works will be completed and commissioned by 2026.
